In a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Saint-Étienne defender Saidou Sow scored late to deprive defending champion Lille of its first win of the new French league season. Sow, 19, scored in the 84th minute with a header from a corner. On his debut, the ball went in off the underside of the crossbar, beating Lille goalkeeper Ivo Grbic.
Burak Yilmaz, a Turkish veteran, had put Lille ahead in the 37th minute. The ball deflected off a defender before Yilmaz, 36, turned and fired it past Etienne Green in the home goal. Lille had more decent chances to extend their advantage, but Green was in top form and made many vital saves. After a 3-3 draw at Metz and a 4-0 home loss to Nice, Lille coach Jocelyn Gourvennec is under increased pressure.
