Roberto Firmino scored two goals, while Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott also scored in a 1–7 victory. Liverpool were forced to come out from behind after Scott Arfield put the Glasgow giants into an early lead.
Firmino's double at half-time turned the game around before the Brazilian triggered Nunez to kill the game as a competition. Klopp left Salah and Thiago Alcântara on the bench with an eye on Sunday's clash with Manchester City in the Premier League. But both were called up for the final 22 minutes and Salah didn't miss his chance to score against a beleaguered Rangers defense.
The Egyptian's treble came in just six minutes to beat Bafetimbi Gomis' previous record in Lyon's 7-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in 2011. Elliott completed the scoring.
