Salernitana, promoted this season, risk being expelled from Serie A after failing to find a buyer, two weeks ahead of the deadline set by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the club said on Thursday.
According to FIGC rules, two clubs with the same owner cannot play in the same division. The club based in Salerno, south of Naples, is co-owned by Lazio president Claudio Lotito.
Independent directors appointed in June to arrange the sale of the club by December 31 confirmed the absence of valid offers and requested a new deadline. "So far, none of the offers received for the acquisition of Salernitana is acceptable," said the administrators.
