On Friday, Rueda had admitted that Santos would study the possibility of removing the shirt with the number 10, in honor of Pelé, the greatest icon of São Paulo and Brazilian football, who died on Thursday, aged 82.
However, on Saturday, the president of the Brazilian club explained that an interview with Pelé, dated 2017, was discovered, in which the 'king' was asked about the possibility of Santos withdrawing the number 10 in his honor.
"He clearly said that he didn't like the idea", declared Rueda, clarifying that, after becoming aware of Pelé's statements, Santos' management gave up the idea of withdrawing that number.
Pelé had been hospitalized since November 29 at that hospital for chemotherapy treatment for a tumor in the colon and treatment for a respiratory infection, and his health deteriorated within the last week.
