The Neroverdi dominated in Sardinia, yet couldn’t make it count in a 1-1 draw with a team down to 10 men.
“It ended in a draw because Cagliari were clammed up and we were too weak,” said the coach in his press conference.
“It’s true that some of our players might be a little tired, but this one was difficult because Cagliari weren’t just quite defensive, they were under lock and key. We never ran a risk and therefore had to try to force the ball through, but we didn’t have the right attitude to kill the game. With a little more experience, we might’ve realised that the first half domination did not mean this would be easy”.
Sassuolo haven’t entirely lost hope of challenging for the top seven, as they face a head-to-head with Milan next week.
