Serie A: Atlanta took over Spezia 5-2

With a 5-2 victory over Spezia, Atalanta ensured their place in the Serie A top four. After a dominant effort in Bergamo, Gian Piero Gasperini's team is level on 25 points with Inter Milan, who are in third place, and host league leaders Napoli. After M'Bala Nzola had opened the scoring for the away side, Atalanta took a comfortable first-half lead thanks to Mario Pasalic's brace and Duvan Zapata's penalties, which the Colombian forward netted at the second try after Spezia defenders encroached during the initially saved spot-kick.

Late goals from Luis Muriel and Ruslan Malinovskyi sealed the win and consolidated Atalanta's Champions League status, as well as providing a good warm-up for Tuesday's trip to Young Boys. After their eighth defeat in 13 games this season, Spezia is in 16th place, just two points above the relegation zone and regional rivals Genoa and Sampdoria.
