Serie A: Sampdoria released Defrel statement

Sampdoria have confirmed that they will punish Gregoire Defrel if the striker is found to have driven under the influence.

Defrel was alleged to have been involved in a police chase after Samp’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta on Sunday, before crashing his car and a breath test showing a high level of alcohol in his blood.

“We’re checking the exact dynamics of the facts and, if the circumstances are confirmed, we’ll take action against the player, as per our internal code of conduct”, the club nervously told Il Secolo XIX.

The Roma loanee is expected to be handed a heavy fine by the Blucerchiati, who already seemed unlikely to exercise their option to buy in the region of €20m.
