Marian Shved goaled twice in a wonderful debut for Shakhtar Donetsk as the Ukrainians smashed RB Leipzig 4-1 in their Champions League Group F opener. Shved, who has just come into the club only five days ago from Celtic, registered the first goal when Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi miskicked the ball outside the box, giving him a chance to tap it into the empty net. Shakhtar have not played in any competitive game this year until August 23 due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They also suffered the loss of numerous important players as FIFA permitted foreign players and coaches to suspend their contracts and exit the club.
Leipzig dominated the territory as the game progressed by equalising through the French defender Mohamed Simakan in the 10th minute in second half. Shakhtar continued unwavered and Shved hit back once more one minute later to reclaim the lead.
