Silence on war: Ukrainian Federation wants to punish Tymoshchuk

The Ukrainian Football Federation announced on Wednesday that it will apply several punishments to Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, a former Ukraine international and current assistant coach of Russian club Zenit.

The reason for the announcement is simple. The 42-year-old former footballer has not spoken once about the war that has affected Ukrainian territory and, in addition, he continued to "cooperate with a club of the aggressor", according to the Ukrainian Football Federation.

"Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, Tymoshchuk, the former captain of the Ukrainian national team, not only did not make public statements in this regard, but also did not break his connection with the aggressor's club. His club, Bayern Munich, publish statements and hold demonstrations in support of Ukraine, Tymoshchuk remains silent and continues to work on behalf of the aggressor," reads the official statement.
