Solskjaer gives Martial verdict after woeful Manchester United performance

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reluctant to scrutinise Anthony Martial's performance in Manchester United's Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham.

Martial made only his second start of the season in the 1-0 loss and surprisingly stayed on for the full duration as United bowed out in the third round.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has scored two goals in his last 24 games for United and both of those were in the second-half of the 9-0 evisceration of Southampton in February.

Cristiano Ronaldo is United's main striker since he rejoined the club and Edinson Cavani scored 10 more goals than Martial last season, but the Uruguayan still does not feel fit enough to be involved.

"I don't think it's right to go into individual performances," Solskjaer said. "Antho was the same as the rest of the team: He'll keep working and get his chances."
