Spain: a shocking surprise in Copa del Rey

The Copa del Rey provided its first shock of the last 16 stage as Sporting Gijon beat Valencia 2-1 at El Molinon, with Nick Blackman scoring the winner.

Sporting took the lead after 34 minutes through Javi Noblejas as he took advantage of Mouctar Diakhaby's lackadaisical approach.

On the stroke of half-time, however, Valencia were able to equalise with Dani Parejo scoring his second goal in as many games.

The 78th minute saw English forward Nick Blackman come onto the pitch and one minute later, he gave Sporting the lead in a famous victory for the Asturians, piling further misery on Los Che boss Marcelino.

The second leg will be played in Valencia on Tuesday 15 January at 21:30 CET.
