Spain’s thrilling penalty performance handed them a Semi final spot

Luis Enrique’s side outmatched Switzerland in the penalty shootout after they held onto the 1-1 draw after being reduced to a 10 men army. Spain’s spectacular performance later saw them to a 3-1 win and set up a semi-final match against Italy in Euro 2020. The three-time European champions held on till the penalty shootout to eliminate the 10-men Switzerland in St Petersburg.

Spain first went ahead with an eighth-minute low shot by Jordi Alba which found its way to Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria and left goalkeeper Yann Sommer helpless in front of the net and an OG gave Spain a leg up early in the Quarterfinals, Xherdan Shaqiri then rescued the team in the 68th minute and leveled the score but they lost momentum after Freuler was sent off in the 77th minute but they held on till extra time to force a penalty shootout. But Switzerland’s Sommer pulled off amazing saves one after another but they missed three penalty shots and Mikel Oyarzabal scored the decider for Spain.
