The Swedish Federation announced, in the form of a statement released through official platforms early Saturday afternoon, that it refuses to face Russia in the World Cup qualifying playoffs, in the image of the position taken by Poland.
The Scandinavian team has scheduled, for the 24th of March, a meeting with the Czech Republic, and, in case of victory, they will face Russia or Poland, in Moscow, in the final. In this sense, it appeals to FIFA to "cancel the playoff games in which Russia participates".
"The illegal and deeply wronged invasion of Ukraine makes, at this moment, any exchange with Russia impossible. In this sense, we ask FIFA to decide the games of the playoffs, in March, in which Russia participates, cancellations", whichever has guaranteed the Chairman, Karl-Erik Nilsson.
