Torino to fire Mazzarri

The situation had become increasingly untenable following three embarrassing results in the space of a week.

They were beaten 7-0 at home by Atalanta, fell 4-2 in extra time to Milan in the Coppa Italia midweek, then were swept aside 4-0 at the Stadio Via del Mare today.

Mazzarri had been at the helm of Torino since January 2018, leaving with 37 wins, 24 draws and 27 defeats in all competition.

Results took a massive downward turn this season, as they crashed out of the Europa League play-offs against Wolves and never recovered.

Their form hit rock bottom recently with four consecutive defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, scoring three goals and conceding 17.

The favourite to take over is Moreno Longo, who has already worked with Torino as their youth team coach.

Longo has been out of work since he was sacked by Frosinone in December 2018.
