Turkish football league games postponed due to earthquake

"In view of the loss of life, injuries and continued efforts in search and rescue, as a result of the earthquake felt in many provinces, whose epicenter is Karamamaras and especially in Hatay, Gaziantep, Adana, Osmaniye, Diyarbakir, Malatya and Sanliurfa [...] , Monday's games were postponed", says the Football Federation, adding that the same will happen with games from other levels on Wednesday.

The Turkish championship had foreseen the conclusion of the 16th round, with the games Umraniyespor-Adana Demirspor, Giresunspor-Kayserispor and Feberbahçe-Konyaspor.

The quake occurred at 4:17 am 33 kilometers from the provincial capital of Gaziantep, in southeastern Turkey, at a depth of 17.9 kilometers.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria and caused at least 1,400 deaths, destroying hundreds of buildings, according to provisional figures cited by the AP.

According to official sources in both countries, hundreds of people are still under the rubble.
