UEFA initiates disciplinary proceedings against Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona

“In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework by Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC in connection with the so-called ‘Super League’ project,” the announcement reads.

“Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course.”

The Super League was launched on April 18 by 12 elite European clubs, including Juventus, Milan and Inter.

However, the breakaway competition collapsed within 48 hours with the Premier League clubs that withdrew from the tournament.

Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only clubs that have not left the competition and could face sanctions by the European football governing body.

UEFA approved ‘reintegration measures’for nine out of 12 Super League clubs last week.
