United hope to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Rennes' Camavinga

Manchester United are hopeful of beating Real Madrid to the signing of Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga by offering to the loan the teenage midfielder back to the French club.

The 17-year-old broke into Rennes' first team last January and after making seven appearances before the end of last season, he has only missed five games this term.

As well as United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been linked with the France Under-21 international.

According to the Metro, United's interest puts them in a strong position to sign Camavinga and they are joined there by Madrid.

The newspaper says, however, that United have proposed a deal involving a loan back to France next season which they hope will sway Rennes into doing business.

Rennes are reportedly "desperate" to keep hold of the youngster, given that they are in next season's Champions League after finishing third in the curtailed Ligue 1 season.
