Villarreal qualify for the Last 16 stage by beating Atalanta

The delayed Villarreal and Atalanta match kept many on the edge of their seat as the last spot on the knockout stage for Champions League was on the line on Thursday. Villarreal took advantage of the opportunity to win by 3-2 in the away match as they played the snow postponed match one day later. The Spanish side was searching for a draw to finish as the runner-up for Group F but soon found themselves leading the match with 3-0 in just under an hour.

Arnaut Danjuma’s brace set Villarreal on the winning path early in the match and Atalanta’s two strikes from Duván Zapata and substitute Ruslan Malinovskyi were not enough to deny Villarreal a win. Atalanta would advance to the Europa League playoffs after finishing third in the group.
