Villarreal was beaten 1-0 by Real Betis

Thanks to a goal by Rodri Sanchez in the second half, the Andalucians handed the Yellow Submarine its first league loss of the year. Early on, both teams attempted to establish their dominance in the match, but Sergio Canales and Giovani Lo Celso were both denied before halftime. The advantage eventually fell to the home team, though, as Rodri popped up inside the box to put Los Verdiblancos in lead in the second session.

Before the game ended, that forced a reopening at both ends, but the home team only needed one goal to secure a crucial victory. Real Betis and Villarreal are both scheduled to play in the Europa League during the next week, with Real Betis hosting Ludogorets Razgrad of Bulgaria and Villarreal travelling to Hapoel Be'er Sheva of Israel.
