Why Kessiè didn’t join Napoli

The Italian tactician coached Kessie when he was in charge of Milan and both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato.com claim the Ivorian star was wanted by Gattuso at Napoli in the summer.

‘Rino’ had specifically requested a physically strong midfielder with the Azzurri who eventually signed Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Gattuso’s first choice, however, appeared to be Kessie.

According to Calciomercato.com, the two clubs have never begun a real negotiation for two reasons.

First of all: Kessie strongly wanted to stay at Milan and secondly the Rossoneri would ask over €30m to sell the 23-year-old.

Bakayoko joined Napoli from Chelsea on dry loan deal.
