Will this be Lionel Messi's last World Cup match?

The Socceroos were a pleasant surprise in the group stages, advancing to the knockout stages in Qatar with victories over Tunisia and Denmark by scores of one. Argentina, meanwhile, recovered from a shocking opening loss to Saudi Arabia with victories of 2-0 over Mexico and Poland.

Messi has been a key player for Argentina in this tournament, scoring twice, including a spectacular goal against Mexico, and contributing one assist despite having a penalty saved against Poland. The Netherlands or the United States are waiting in the quarterfinals if they defeat Australia, as Argentina has done in all but two of the teams' prior games. With Messi on the field, Australia will face a difficult task in trying to keep a third straight clean sheet at the competition. Milos Degenek, a defender, said: "Playing against arguably the best footballer to ever grace the game is going to be a difficult game, undoubtedly."
