Premier League clubs are fighting each other for West Bromwich Albion’s goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this offseason. Wolverhampton Wanderers have also joined the race this summer. The club’s current goalkeeper Rui Patricio’s future at the Premier League side remains uncertain under the new manager Bruno Lage and he thus keeps the 28-year-old English goalkeeper on the potential transfer list. Johnstone topped the goalkeeper’s list with the most saves last season but could not help Baggies stay alive in the top-flight tournament, West Brom was unfortunately relegated after they finished 19th under Sam Allardyce.
Johnstone benefits from Nick Pope’s injury and received a call up to Gareth Southgate’s provision 26-man squad. Johnstone is now Jordan Pickford’s understudy and might get his chance on the European stage. His performance has even piqued the interest of Manchester United and West Ham United though the £20m price tag could be a hindrance for a player who would be available for free next year.
