In their second preseason game, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Clippers. The Mavericks won 122-114, but more importantly, they were up 60-56 at halftime. Because neither club used their best players in the second half, it was virtually a junior varsity scrimmage. Luka Doncic continued to illustrate how ridiculously effortless basketball is for him, while Kristaps Porzingis continued to move well defensively.
One of the recurring themes in the Luka/Porzingis partnership has been their inability to flourish at the same time. Individually, they've all gone supernova, but their combined magnificence has been restricted. Luka got 18 minutes while Porzingis had 19 minutes. Luka had 14 points and Porzingis had 15 in those minutes. When Porzingis passes more, the Mavericks play better. Last season, they went 6-0 with an average margin of victory of 18 points per game in games in which Porzingis got four assists.
