Throughout the Memphis Grizzlies' preseason finale, coach Taylor Jenkins could be heard urging his team to push the tempo, shouting "go!" on nearly every defensive rebound. Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Marcus Smart responded by racing up the court to create scoring chances. By the time they exited the game against the Miami Heat, Memphis appeared in firm control.
However, a 14-0 Miami run in the fourth quarter flipped the momentum. The Heat seized the lead and held on for a 114-109 win at FedExForum. Bane and Santi Aldama led Memphis with 19 points each, while Morant contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Jaylen Wells added 11 points off the bench. Miami closed on a 26-9 run, capitalizing on Grizzlies backups to complete the comeback. Memphis will open the regular season Wednesday against the Utah Jazz.
