The Indiana Pacers have officially waived center James Wiseman, a move coinciding with the signing of Micah Potter and the departure of sharpshooter Garrison Mathews. Wiseman had recently rejoined the team on December 20, securing a ten-day contract through a hardship exception. Although this agreement was terminated ahead of schedule, he nevertheless remains entitled to his full financial compensation.
Despite his high expectations as the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Wiseman’s time with Indiana was unfortunately heavily compromised by a severe Achilles tendon injury sustained early in the season. In the three matches played since his short-lived return, the twenty-four-year-old big man averaged thirteen minutes per appearance while totaling merely nine points.
He ultimately leaves the franchise maintaining career averages of 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, thereby concluding a difficult stint as the organization adjusts its lineup needs for the remainder of the active campaign.
