JaVale McGee Joins the Kings

JaVale McGee was formally dismissed by the Mavericks on Tuesday, and he is now ready to join another Western Conference contender. The 35-year-old, signed a three-year, $17MM contract with Dallas last year and began the season as a starter, but rapidly dropped out of the rotation. In 42 games (a career-low 8.5 minutes per game), McGee averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds. When it became evident that McGee was no longer in the team's plans for the future, Dallas released him this summer.

Hopefully, the three-time champion has enough power left in the tank to contribute to a squad that broke a 16-year playoff drought last year. McGee is coming off a season in which he averaged 9.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 74 games and made 17 starts for the Phoenix Suns. Sacramento's roster is full of backup centers. Nerlens Noel, Neemias Queta, Alex Len, and Skal Labissiere are all likely to battle for minutes with McGee.
