Pistons commit to Ron Holland through 2028

The Detroit Pistons have exercised Ron Holland’s team option for the 2027/28 season, reaffirming their commitment to the young forward ahead of their season opener against the Boston Celtics. The move was reported by Spotrac’s Keith Smith and confirmed by RealGM’s transaction log.

The fifth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft is set to earn approximately $9.1 million in 2026/27, with his fourth-year option worth $11.5 million now fully guaranteed.

The decision also makes Holland eligible for a contract extension in summer 2027. Without a new deal, he could become a restricted free agent in 2028.

While rookie options are often routine, Detroit had reasons to weigh its decision carefully. Holland averaged 7.3 points and 1.1 assists across his first two seasons, shooting 45.0% from the field and 24.6% from three-point range.

Despite offensive inconsistencies, the 21-year-old remains a dependable perimeter defender on a rapidly improving Detroit roster.
