The Portland Trail Blazers began the previous season with a 3-11 record, which set the stage for a difficult campaign in which they concluded with a 21-61 record, the worst in the Western Conference. There were already indications that they would have a poor start to the 2024–25 season, mostly as a result of their exceptionally difficult schedule. Of their first 29 games, 27 are scheduled to be played against Western Conference opponents, who are quite competitive. The Blazers have reasonable hopes going into this season.
They are already aware that their chances of making the playoffs are slim this year. Their list of injured players is already growing Matisse Thybulle's right knee pain is being evaluated further. Before the Blazers even start their preseason schedule, two important players from last season—Robert Williams III and Shaedon Sharpe—are already out with injuries.
