The New Orleans Pelicans have secured forward Herb Jones with a three-year, $68 million contract extension, keeping him under contract through 2028-29 with a player option for 2029-30. The deal reflects the team’s belief in Jones’ continued growth, particularly on offense. Known for his elite defense since being drafted in the second round out of Alabama in 2021, Jones has amassed over 350 steals and 150 blocks, earning All-Defensive recognition and becoming a key piece in Willie Green’s system.
Offensively, however, he remains a work in progress. In the 2024-25 season, Jones averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists—a slight dip from the previous year. While he shot over 40% from three the season before on limited attempts, he has yet to develop into a consistent secondary scorer. The Pelicans are betting that Jones can expand his offensive impact as he enters his prime.
