Heat eye D’Angelo Russell as backcourt reinforcement

Miami Heat are still exploring backcourt options after an offseason defined by the arrivals of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. Despite those additions, the team lacks depth behind Davion Mitchell, and D’Angelo Russell has emerged as a potential target. Reporter Ira Winderman notes that Miami could consider both a reunion with Gabe Vincent and a move for Russell, should his situation in Memphis progress toward a buyout.

Russell’s future with the Grizzlies appears increasingly uncertain. According to Jake Fischer, player and franchise are working toward a separation, with a release viewed as the most likely outcome. Russell exercised a five‑million‑dollar option before being traded from Washington to Memphis in a multi‑team deal. The former All‑Star averaged 10.2 points, four assists and 2.3 rebounds last season with Dallas. If he becomes available, Miami may see him as an experienced creator and shooter capable of rounding out its revamped roster.
