Morris will be traded from the Washington Wizards to the Detroit Pistons. According to Josh Robbins of The Athletic, the Pistons are exchanging a second-round lottery choice for that. For the Wizards, the deal results in a $9.8 million transferred player exception. The Wizards' transactions for Jordan Poole and Tyus Jones made Morris, who turned 28 on June 27, a trade candidate. Morris was able to fill in for Washington, which was looking to solve its point guard shortage.
Morris has now been traded twice in a row in the off-season. He was traded to the Wizards by the Denver Nuggets for Kentavius Caldwell-Pope last summer. Morris has resided in Denver for five seasons. Morris played 62 games with the Wizards at the time when the Nuggets were in the process of capturing their first NBA title. He shot 48% from the field, including 38.2% from three, for an average of 10.3 points per game.
