Warriors enter preseason with fresh faces and familiar risks

The redesigned Golden State Warriors are facing some serious concerns coming into their preseason after finishing 48-34 and winning a playoff series last spring for the first time in two years. In a historic trade deadline move, the Warriors raised their ceiling by acquiring future Hall of Famer Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Al Horford, a former five-time All-Star power forward/center and potential Hall of Famer, is now Golden State's top free agent addition. To complete the Warriors' starting five, Horford, 39, and Butler, 36, will join four-time champs Stephen Curry, 37, and Draymond Green, 35.

That formidable quartet is also fairly old, making them always vulnerable to injury. Who will be Golden State's fifth starting player is unknown. De'Anthony Melton, a recent addition, was selected by head coach Steve Kerr to start in the backcourt next to Curry the previous season, but after an ACL tear, he was transferred to the Brooklyn Nets.
