According to earlier reports, Johnson will compete for Golden State's last two-way berth at training camp. Johnson, however, will most likely return to the G League in 2023–2024 to play for the Santa Cruz Warriors because the franchise opted to part ways early. According to the Exhibit 10 condition in Johnson's contract, he may be eligible for a bonus of up to $75,000 if he works for Santa Cruz for at least 60 days.
In 32 regular season games (25.8 MPG) with Santa Cruz the previous year, Johnson averaged 9.4 PPG, 13.5 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. In 2022–2023, the former big man for Utah and Marquette was the NBA G League's top rebounder. 20 players are currently under contract for the Warriors, only one short of the summer cap.
