Afghanistan hopeful for semi-finals after beating Sri Lanka

Afghanistan enjoyed an easy win against Sri Lanka by a rousing 7-wicket win with 28 balls to spare. They put on a brilliant all-round show which saw fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi post eye-popping numbers, 4 for 34, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman also supported the side with 2 for 38. Afghanistan successfully dismissed Sri Lanka for 241 off in 49.3 overs with a good inning by bowlers. Later Azmatullah Omarzai’s unbeaten 73 and Rahmat Shah 62 off 74 helped the side chase the score in just 45.2 overs at Pune's MCA International Stadium.

When Sri Lanka batted, Omarzai, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi revealed the top order's noticeable frail inconsistency, taking the wickets of Dimuth Karunaratne, Charith Asalanka, and Angelo Mathews. Pathum Nissanka's 46 off 60 (54) was the highest score by a Sri Lankan batsman.
