An England victory in the Headingley Ashes Test is assured

Mitchell Starc took two wickets in the first session after the hosts restarted at 0-27, while Mitch Marsh and Pat Cummins each claimed one to keep Australia in the match. But in order to win the game and take a commanding 3-0 series lead, Australia will need to conjure their own version of the Headingley miracle with Ben Stokes at the wicket and Harry Brook in charge.

England got through the first four overs of the Ashes without incident. Then, Starc bowled Ben Duckett for 23 runs. Moeen Ali only played for 15 balls before being clean-bowled for five by Starc (2-44). Later, Zak Crawley was caught behind while attempting to cover-drive a length ball off Marsh on 44. Before Joe Root was caught down the leg side trying to draw Cummins shortly before lunch, the hosts threatened to regain control, making the score 4-131. At lunch, the score stands 4-153 as they chase 251 on the scoreboard.
