Australia remains in the lead against India

India knew they could only hope to survive when they started the third day's sessions, and they succeeded in doing so, and reduce Australia’s lead to 296 runs. Australia's hold still remains tight. But Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur's valiant runs and a better bowling performance than in the first innings helped India persevere magnificently on the third day of the WTC final. After taking body blows to miraculously reduce the score to 173, they started the day 318 behind with half of their team missing. However, they concluded the day 296 behind with six Australian wickets still standing.

India's bowling was more controlled than it was in the opening innings. After shutting David Warner off early, Mohammed Siraj in particular got an uneven bounce. Soon afterward Umesh Yadav got Usman Khawaja with a wide delivery. While Ravindra Jadeja removed Steven Smith and Travis Head effortlessly. Leaving Labuschagne and Green on the pitch with 41 runs off 118 balls and 7 runs off 27 balls respectively.
