Babar Azam steps down as the captain of Pakistan’s team

After Pakistan's miserable performance in the ODI World Cup in India in 2023, Babar resigned as captain of the team. However, in March of this year, he was named captain of the white-ball forms once again. Now, Mohammad Rizwan is expected to take over as Pakistan's captain in limited-overs forms later this month after Babar Azam offered his resignation for the second time as captain.

The 29-year-old stated that he wished to reduce his burden as captain and concentrate on his batting. Babar remained the team's captain during his second spell, but the team's fortunes did not improve as Pakistan fared poorly in the T20 World Cup in America in June, losing to both India and the United States and missing out on the Super Eight stage. Babar's resignation further compounds Pakistan's problems as they prepare to travel for three away games after their October 7 Test series against England.
