CSK substitutes a 17-year-old Mumbai batter for Ruturaj Gaikwad

In a significant move ahead of their rematch with the Mumbai Indians (MI), the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have formally announced Ayush Mhatre as Ruturaj Gaikwad's successor for the remaining 2025 IPL season. The team looks to bounce back from a dismal start to the season.

Ayush Mhatre, a rising star on the Indian domestic circuit, has caused a stir with his reliable performances in a variety of forms. During a recent CSK trial session in Chennai, the young right-handed batter dazzled the coaching team with his bold stroke play and composed demeanor under duress. Mhatre has amassed 504 runs in nine first-class games throughout his brief but significant domestic career, including two hundreds and a fifty. Even more impressive is his List A record, which includes two tons and 458 runs in seven games, including a high of 181 against Nagaland.
