The Gujarat Titans (GT) have brought back Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips, who has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to injury. This marks Shanaka’s second stint with the Titans, having previously featured for the team in IPL 2023. Signed for Rs 75 lakh, the 32-year-old brings with him a wealth of international experience and solid recent form, which could prove vital for a Gujarat side struggling with inconsistency this season.
During his earlier spell with GT, Shanaka played just three matches, scoring 26 runs and didn’t get a chance to bowl. Despite the modest numbers, his return under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill presents a fresh opportunity to make an impact, especially in the middle order. Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips, who was bought for Rs 2 crore, failed to make a single appearance before being sidelined.
