Joshua Little surpassed Sandeep Lamichanne of Nepal to take the most wickets in T20Is in the year 2022, becoming only the second Irishman to do so. In the 19th over of the Super-12 encounter against New Zealand at Adelaide Oval on Friday, the Irish pacer struck out Kane Williamson, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner for a 3-22 total. He was the second bowler to record a hat trick in the tournament's 2022 iteration. Earlier, in round one of the competitions in Geelong, UAE's Karthik Meiyappan defeated Sri Lanka with a hat-trick.
Little is the second Irish player to win a hat trick in the T20 World Cup after all-rounder Curtis Campher, who did so in the 2021 edition of the competition. By dismissing Santner, he was able to break Lamichanne's previous record of 38 wickets and take his 39th wicket of the year in 2022.
