After winning the first test and amassing a mammoth 531 in the second and final test, Sri Lanka has placed themselves in a great position to win the series in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's response, at the end of the second day, was 55-1; Mahmudul Hasan was out for 21, but they were still down by 476 runs. Six Sri Lankan batsmen scored half-centuries, but none of them were able to reach the three-figure threshold. When the 10th wicket was run out, Kamindu Mendis, who amassed two hundreds in Sri Lanka's 328-run first-test day triumph, was left stranded on 92.
Kusal Mendis had the most runs of the day with 93 and Dimuth Karunaratne followed Mendis and scored 86. 70 was added by captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who also made hundreds in the first two innings of the Test. Nishan Madushka, the opener, scored 57 while Dinesh Chandimal added 59.
