Joty confirmed as Bangladesh’s ODI captain for Australia tour

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed that Nigar Sultana Joty will continue as ODI captain for the upcoming tour of Australia, ending speculation about a possible change in leadership. Questions had surfaced after Joty stepped down as T20I captain midway through the Asian Games, a move that reportedly embarrassed the board.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal and women’s wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu met players on September 28, after which Rafiqul publicly reaffirmed Joty’s position. She has led Bangladesh in ODIs since 2021. Rafiqul also addressed comments made by senior coach Sarwar Imran, calling his criticism of the board “indiscreet” and outside the code of conduct, though no show‑cause notice will be issued. Bangladesh will play three ODIs in Australia before shifting focus to a five‑match T20I series. With stability restored at the top, Joty now prepares to guide the side through a demanding tour.
