Ngidi, Markram star as South Africa dominate on Day 1 against West Indies

South Africa started Day 1 of Test 1 against West Indies with a power-packed performance riding on Aiden Markram’s fifty and the nine-wicket haul with the combined effort by Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje. The first Test of the two-match series kicked off on Thursday at  Daren Sammy Cricket Ground with West Indies electing to bat first. Thereafter South African bowlers had a field day as Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope could put up just 31 runs before giving away their wickets.

Proteas bowlers Ngidi and Nortje then annihilated the hosts’ middle-order leaving them at 56-7 and thereafter they could just post 97 on Day 1. Visitors then lost skipper Dean Elgar and Keegan Peterson early but Markram’s 60 off 110 deliveries gave them an upper hand. Rassie van der Dussen then took charge smashing 34 runs off 104 balls to help SA to 128-4 at the end of Day 1 and they lead with 31 runs.
