South Africa has picked a very inexperienced lineup against the West Indies for the T20I series, which begins on August 24, with major names like Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, and David Miller missing out.
Apart from the aforementioned individuals, pacers Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen have been left out, but Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi, who were among the traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, have been included in the team. The lack of these major names is due to a variety of factors, according to South Africa's white-ball coach, Rob Walter. He discloses that some were rested owing to injury and workload management, while others were unavailable due to involvement in T20 competitions. Rassie van der Dussen, Donovan Ferreira, Patrick Kruger, and Wiaan Mulder will be among the new faces. Also, two new names in the team have piqued Walter's interest: all-rounder Jason Smith and left-arm bowler Kwena Maphaka.
