The 100th Test for Jonny Bairstow may be his last

Given that Jonny Bairstow has had to defend his spot in the England team ever since making his debut in 2012, it is only fitting that he enters his 100th Test match next week with doubts about his future. Following a disappointing series against India, Bairstow's form is once again under scrutiny; going into the last Test in Dharamshala, the Yorkshireman had only amassed 170 runs.

However, this is nothing new for a player whose adaptability has frequently worked against him; at different times, he has been moved up and down the order, given the wicketkeeping gloves, and then had them taken away once again. Actually, Bairstow's adaptability has proven to be both a help and a hindrance. However, it is a testament to his professionalism and adaptability that he has played so many different roles for England with such skill since making his Test debut against the West Indies at Lord's in 2012.
