Antoine Griezmann’s goal bridges a 1-1 draw against Hungary

Antoine Griezmann rescued a 1-1 draw for France against Hungary in Budapest on Saturday, but the world champions missed out on a place in the Euro 2020 last 16. Hungary threatened to splinter Group F when Attila Fiola gave the hosts a stunning lead in first-half stoppage time after catching the France defense off guard. After living up to their tournament billing with a 1-0 win over Germany, France dominated Hungary early on, creating multiple chances against a team that held out for 84 minutes before succumbing 3-0 to Portugal.

France will stay in Budapest to compete against Portugal for the finals while Hungary will move to Munich to take on Germany. France has controlled much of the first half, with regard to Covid-19, but the crowd approaching sees a soaring high of 60,000 at the Puskas Arena, the only Euro 2020 venue without capacity restrictions due to Covid-19.
