In their first Champions League home game on Wednesday, Aston Villa defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 thanks to a spectacular late strike by Jhon Duran.
The scoreline was a flashback to the most spectacular day in the Premier League team's history—Villa's triumph against Bayern in the 1982 European Cup final. Bayern controlled possession at Villa Park but missed their opportunities and were undone by Duran's latest brilliant strike in the 79th minute when he found Manuel Neuer off his line and lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to send the home crowd into frenzy. Duran maintains his incredible streak of scoring important goals from the bench with the goal, his sixth of the year and fifth since coming off the bench. However, if Villa's stand-in captain Emiliano Martinez hadn't also been playing brilliantly, it might not have been enough for a second victory from two league games.
