Atalanta won the Europa League by defeating Bayer Leverkusen (3-0), thanks to a hattrick from Ademola Lookman. The 26-year-old Nigerian striker was the big figure of the night in Dublin and put an end to the long run of the German team, which had not lost for 51 consecutive games.
Lookman soon showed that he wanted to take the Cup to Bergamo and in the 12th minute he opened the score, doubling Atalanta's lead 14 minutes later, with a beautiful goal (26').
In the second half, Bayer Leverkusen changed their approach to the game, with the introduction of Boniface, but were unable to break the Italian resistance, eventually seeing Lookman reach his third goal of the night and complete a memorable hat-trick.
All in all, Atalanta won their first international title and the seventh in their history, after an Italian Cup and six Serie B titles.
