Atalanta sealed their third back-to-back season in the Champions League by beating Genoa by 4-3 in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side was hoping for an easy win before the match but it turned out to be a lot tougher than imagined as Genoa put up quite a fight in the second half and made a comeback despite being 3-0 down.
Duvan Zapata, Ruslan Malinovskyi, and Robin Gosens had scored in the first half itself to see off Atalanta to an easy top-four finish with a win against the Serie A rivals. Eldor Shomurodov scored twice in the second half to trouble Atalanta and Goran Pandev also added his name to the score sheet. Before Genoa could take a lead Mario Pasalic then scored the last goal for Atalanta.
