Atletico Madrid made a late comeback to win by 2-1 against Espanyol

Atletico Madrid had settled for a draw in the first La Liga match after the international break facing Espanyol on the other side, but the 99th-minute winner salvaged the game for the defending champions who rose to a 2-1 win. The match marked Antoine Griezmann’s second debut in La Liga but the two-year wait was anti-climatic as he left the field at 58th minute while the Colchoneros were struggling with one goal down against Espanyol.

Raul de Tomas opened for the newly-promoted side with a 40th-minute goal, later Atletico had to fight back and Joao Felix’s addition at the 58th minute infused new energy in the squad. Yannick Carrasco leveled the score 11 minutes before time then Lemar finished the game with a 99th-minute goal.
